Andy Smith's Top 10

1. Marvin Gaye: 'T Plays It Cool'
Taken from the 'Trouble Man' soundtrack LP (one of my favourite soundtracks). I included this on my first ever mix CD, 'The Document'. It is said that this is one of the first tracks ever made with a drum loop.
2. The Temptations: 'Ain’t Too Proud To Beg'
Really like the intro, which keeps you hanging until the track drops into a classic soul cut. I always play this one out when I'm DJ-ing.
3. Shorty Long: 'Baby Come Home To Me'
Taken from the LP 'The Prime Of Shorty Long'. Why this was never released as a single is beyond me!
4. Edwin Starr: 'My Weakness Is You'
Such a prolific artist on the soul scene (with so many tracks embraced by the Northern Soul scene). This one just makes me want to dance every time I hear it!
5. The Isley Brothers: 'My Love Is Your Love'
Originally only available on a cut price album (licensed to the MFP label in the UK) but a top notch end of the night track in my book. You've gotta love the Isleys’ vocals and oh, those strings!
6. Frank Wilson: 'Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)'
It’s just a great song with top delivery from Mr Wilson.
7. Martha Reeves & The Vandellas: 'Heatwave'
OK so it may be an obvious choice but this track still puts me in a good mood whenever I hear it (especially if it’s hot out!)
8. Gladys Knight & The Pips: 'Here Are The Pieces Of My Broken Heart'
What a singer Gladys Knight is, and this is one of my favourites by her. A top mid tempo track.
9. Stevie Wonder: 'I'm Gonna Make You Love Me'
There are so many great Stevie tracks. How do you pick just one? Well this is the one I'm into right now. Taken from the 'For Once In My Life' LP from 1968. Stevie gets very groovy on here.
10. Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell: 'Ain’t No Mountain High Enough'
What a dynamite combination! There isn't much better in the way of duets in my book. The delivery is superb.
