Dave Ball's Top 10

1. R Dean Taylor: 'There's A Ghost In My House'
I remember this from about 1975 in Northern Soul clubs. It was on an MFP compilation LP. Motown seemed to have overlooked it, and didn't originally put it out as a single. The B side, 'Let's Go Somewhere', was a killer too!
2. Marvin Gaye: 'Lonely Lover'
Funnily enough, it was released as a B side, but is far superior to the A side, 'Life Is Rated X', in my opinion - anything by Marvin is genius though... my favourite soul singer of all time.
3. Smokey Robinson & The Miracles: 'The Tears Of A Clown'
Classic - yet another Motown genius!
4. Stevie Wonder: 'He's Mistra Know it All'
Simply wonderful!
5. Junior Walker & The All Stars: 'Roadrunner'
I love the sax and the lyrics - fantastic!
6. Frank Wilson: 'Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)'
This is the last track they played at Wigan Casino, before it closed down, and so has very special memories for a lot of soul fans, which is why I wasn't very pleased when it was used to endorse a chicken product on TV, but hey, that's life in the 21st century for you. Legend has it that there were only two white label copies exchanging hands for £15,000 each - the most expensive single of all time!
7. The Temptations: 'Ball Of Confusion'
I love their psychedelic period, with the amazing Norman Whitfield production.
8. The Commodores: 'The Human Zoo'

This is another Northern Soul fave of mine, with a very strange intro.
9. Jimmy Ruffin: 'What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted'
A tragic classic - I love it!
10. The Isley Brothers: 'This Old Heart Of Mine'
Another of my favourite Motown acts.
