Brenda Holloway had
it all. She was one of the most beautiful women who ever signed to Motown,
a classically trained violinist possessed of a voice that could make grown
men weep.
She could and should have been a superstar. Certainly she should never
have been consigned to the Motown second division. Her name should have
been up in lights alongside her more illustrious label mates. So where
did it all go wrong? Perhaps a lack of patience on her part and label
founder Berry Gordy’s tendency to put all of his eggs in one basket,
concentrating on one act at a time, combined to the detriment of Motown
lovers everywhere. This collection goes some way to redressing the balance. |
