Three
years of hard work and research down the line from the groundbreaking
release of A Cellarful Of Motown and Volume 2 is Änally here.
In 2002 some of the world’s most valuable collections of archive
pop music was opened up, 40 prisoners of the Motown vaults were allowed
to breathe the air for the Ärst time in 40 years, little was thought then
that this was just the tip of the iceberg.
But after all we are talking Motown. As has been said a million times
before there are no surprises when it comes to the world’s best
known pop music label.
So the doors were creaked open for Volume 1 – for Volume 2 a few
more mountains were moved, a few more spotlights thrown on and a few more
tape boxes moved around in order to bring you the best vaulted tracks
that could be found in the Motown archives.
Some of the tracks here have circulated amongst collectors, but now you
will get to hear them as the writers, producers and the artists intended
– no crackles, hiss or pops.
In some cases in order to bring you something a little different the liberty
has been taken of using a slightly different mix to the versions that
are already ‘out there’.
In the opening notes to Cellarful 1 the rarity of Änding long lost treasures
in the attic or the basement was talked about and the chances of discovering
more than one being slim – well words must now be eaten as here
in all their glory are another 42 of the freshest, mustiest, dustiest
Motown grooves – until Volume 3 that is!!! |
